The little black dress.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

As most of you know by now, my good friend Lindsey is getting married in June. Whoa, as I typed that sentence I had one of those moments that I'm sure she has everyday. That holy crap, the wedding is only four months away moments. Moving on...

When she got engaged Lindsey decided to let all of us bridesmaids pick our own black cocktail dresses to wear in the wedding. This way we'd all be able to choose a style that suited our own unique taste, and we'd also have the opportunity to wear the dresses again. The only requirements are that the dresses have to be satin and knee-length. Genius, am I right?

This weekend all five of us crammed into one car and hit the mall on a mission: to each find the perfect little black dress. And guess what?

Mission accomplished.

Surprisingly enough we all found our dresses right away. One of the girls was able to find a dress she loved at Macy's, but the rest of us actually found ours at White House Black Market. The last time I'd gone there I had only seen one satin cocktail dress, but this time we found several. It's almost scary how easy it all was.

I'm pretty much in love with mine. I don't get to dress up very often, and this little number makes me feel like hot stuff. I didn't get any great pictures of me in it, so the beautiful exotic model from their website will have to do for now.

Surprisingly, picking out earrings was the most difficult part of the day.

But finding four different-but-similar black satin dresses for four different body types? Piece of cake.

that is so awesome that your friend let you choose the dress. that is HUGE because most of the time the BM dresses, let's face it, suck!

i love the dress you chose. it's my favorite of the four. it looks beautiful on you.

in response to your comment, i highly recommend bullies as pets. they are stubborn but oh so entertaining. promised laughs on a daily basis.

I agree with Myrna - your dress is by far my favorite (shush, don't tell the others!). I think that is awesome that Lindsey let all of you choose your own. How unselfish she is. So glad you find yours on first trip! :)

ps- you're way more pretty than that exotic model!

Lauryn! I love that dress, and you look stunning in it! :) And I agree with your other friend... way better than the model. Awesome find!

I love the dress you picked! I think that's a great idea and very thoughtful of the bride to let you pick your own dress that you would wear again. Very economical :)

Wow, those dresses are absolutely gorgeous! I loathe dress shopping because my figure is so ridiculously stupid, it's hard to find anything!!

Love your choice! You could pick your own dress? How awesome is that! So much better than having some frothy pink number you will never wear again. :)

I was JUST telling my boyfriend this idea the other day (Im in two weddings this year). Such a great idea, considering how pricey bridesmaid dresses can get. LOVE White House/Black Market. And your dress is adorable.

M'kay, so here's the thing. Since I'm attempting with my own project to bring bloggers closer together, I keep coming back to the idea of the get-together that you and Jenni had.

I admire you both for not just talking about it but actually doing it. It was so full of awesomeness (if that's not a word it should be) that I figured "Hey, how can I not be around people like this?" So here I am, number 25 on your followers list. :)

Dress looks great by the way!

oh my gosh, upon reading that first sentence I realized that June really is only four months away... which means the wedding I'm MOH in this May is only three months from now, eek! Definitely time to search for my dress now, thanks for the motivation! Speaking of which, I love your dress, excellent choice!

I wore a Tadashi dress very similar to that in my friend's wedding in May. We all got to choose our own black dress. I did that with my girls for my wedding too. It looks so beautiful in pics!
