A while back I signed up for Broadway in Detroit, a mailing list that sends out notifications and pre-sale information about shows in our area. While I can't really afford to go to the theater (said in a snooty British accent, of course) on a regular basis, it was still fun to see which shows were coming to town. But then I got an email telling me that a show I've always wanted to see was coming to Detroit: The Phantom of the Opera.
I grew up watching musicals, performing in musicals, and occasionally going to see them, but despite my memorizing and falling in love with the music of Phantom I'd never gotten the chance to experience it. Sure, they made it more accessible when the movie came out, but I wanted to see it live. Live is just so much better!
So I went ahead and splurged a little and ordered some pre-sale tickets because the cost was significantly less than I'd ever find them elsewhere. I knew that they'd be good seats, because the show wasn't even open to the general public yet, but I had no idea just how good they were until we arrived that night. Front row, slightly off-center.
I've never had front row seats. To anything. Ever. It was kind of awesome.
I loved seeing The Phantom of the Opera without the distraction of rows and rows of people, especially considering the special effects and pyrotechnics involved in the show. Also, sitting close to the stage sometimes allows you to see little flaws in a performance, but the cast we saw was absolutely amazing. I personally love Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, and I find that show so hauntingly beautiful. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. That's how I know it was worth the cost.

All in all it was a wonderful night. If the theater is something that interests you, I highly recommend looking into similar offers in your area. Thank you to the Detroit Opera House and the cast of last Wednesday's show for exceeding my expectations and making it the perfect theater-going experience!

Yay Phantom of the Opera! I'm so glad you got to go and that you enjoyed it!
Ooooooooooooh! Glad it was so awesome. I'm a big theatre junkie, but it can get very expensive.
FIRST ROW? You are the luckiest girl in the world. I could only imagine how awesome that might have been.
I saw The Phantom of the Opera when I was in 8th grade in Toronto for a field trip and although I loved it so, I didn't really appreciate it for all of it's amazingness. I was thinking about going to see it now that it's in Detroit, but I definitely won't be sitting first row like you!
And isn't Broadway in Detroit awesome? I've been on their mailing list for awhile (since I work right next to the Fisher Theatre I'm always wanting to know what is coming).
