Pain in the... Neck

Friday, July 10, 2009

A little over a week ago I was sitting in my Thursday night Finance class, resting my face in my hands and tuning out my professor. I happened to run my hand over the base of my neck at some point and I noticed a lump near my trachea that was about the size of an olive. Of course, thinking about anything but finance, I immediately jumped to the scary conclusions, like omgwhatisthat, doihavecanceroftheneck?!

So I made an appointment to see my doctor on Monday and he determined that it was actually on my thyroid, so they tested my blood and told me to have an ultrasound done. My blood came back perfectly normal, which means that my thyroid is normal... which unfortunately means that we don't know what on earth it is.

Now I'm trying to find a doctor to stick a tiny needle in said lump and figure out what the heck it is and how to make it go away. I can't even look when there's a needle in my arm, so you can imagine my excitement about this procedure. Sure, I wont be able to see it but come on. A needle in my neck? No thank you.

What's even crappier than the whole needle thing is that the doctor I was referred to for the test can't even see me until next month. Despite my discomfort at the thought, I'm actually rather eager to be poked and prodded because I want to know what the heck this thing is.

I'm doing my best to keep my mind off of my neck (which is difficult since they're attached, hah!), but it's tough because this darn throat olive is starting to become annoyingly present. It's hurting my neck muscles a wee bit and I can definitely feel it when I breathe.

I'm lucky to have a few health afficionados near and dear to me who are offering me lots of advice and who are sure that it's probably nothing. I know tht stressing wont help, I just hate the waiting and wondering.

Stick a needle in me, I'm done! I'll post an update as soon as I get one.

Oh my god throat olive is the funniest thing I've heard all day! You crack me up! But I'm sorry you're suffering... The worst thing about health-related stuff is not knowing what it is and how to try to solve it. Good luck!

Hope you find out what it is soon. I would hate the waiting and the not knowing - it is the worst!

Good luck and update when you can.

I am sorry to hear about this. I will keep you in my thoughts in hopes that it is nothing (best thing right now though is that it is not cancer and/or thyroid issues). Please keep up updated!

So I couldn't find your e-mail anywhere so I thought I'd just leave a comment for you. I am actually doing another blogger swap soon. I just sent the host lady, Kelly, and e-mail asking to include you and gave her a link to your blog. If you are really interested in doing the swap, send her an e-mail as well. Her blog is http://www.according-to-kelly.com/ and her e-mail is accordingtokelly@gmail.com.

Here is the post regarding the rules and set-up about the favorite things swap... it is such a fun thing and I highly recommend doing it http://www.according-to-kelly.com/2009/06/drumroll-please.html
